When you enter the lobby of La Cantera Resort & Spa, you’ll find that our lobby space was built to resemble the “Big House” at King Ranch.

The wood beams in the ceiling, the roaring stone fireplace in the lobby and the look of Sire Bar’s rustic colors and furnishings, all tie back to the “Big House” at the King Ranch.This position will plan, prep, set up and prepare quality products in all areas of the Pastry/Bake Shop to include, but not limited to, pastries, desserts, breads, ice creams, sorbets, creams, simple syrups, jams, displays/centerpieces, in accordance with departmental quality standards and specifications.

What you will have an opportunity to do:Essential Functions:Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards.Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment.

Use equipment only as intended.Anticipate guests’ needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day.Maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas.Maintain and strictly abide by State sanitation/Health regulations and Hotel requirements.Meet with Pastry Chef/Sous Chef to review assignments, anticipated business levels, changes and other information pertinent to the job performance.Start prep work on items needed for the particular menu of the day.Organize all of the various prep items needed from different areas to ensure that all items are in place and ready for service.Continue prep work after the meal period for the next meal service.Prepare all menu items following recipes and yield guide.Inform the Sous Chef of any shortages before the item runs out.Communicate any assistance needed during busy periods to the Sous Chef to ensure optimum service to guests.Inform Head Cook of any excess items that can be used in daily specials or elsewhere.Maintain proper storage procedures as specified by Health Department and Hotel requirements.Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education:High school education or equivalent requiredAt least one year pastry cook experience or one year of culinary school requiredCustomer Service experience preferredFood Handler certification required Job Requirements:Must be a United States citizen or possess a valid work permitMust have strong financial competenceMust be able to perform in a highly confidential environmentMust have strong computer skillsMust be able to work well under pressureMust be able to accurately follow instructions, both verbally and writtenMust be highly detailed orientatedMust have strong organizational skillsMust be able to work in a fast paced environmentMust have excellent listening skillsMust possesses excellent communication skillsMust be professional in appearance and demeanorMust always ensure a teamwork environmentAbility to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends and holidaysMust have the ability to deal effectively and interact well with the guests and associatesMust have the ability to resolve problems/conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner Working Conditions:Must be able to sit for long periods of timeMust be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, and repetitive hand & arm movements frequently.Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, walk on uneven surfaces on an occasional basis.While primarily an indoor job, must be able to walk outside in a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, heat).Must be able to climb stairs occasionally, both indoors and outside in a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, heat).
