As a member of Texas House Counsel, this attorney will be responsible for defending Chubb’s insureds in a variety of litigation including insurance defense, casualty defense, premises, auto, commercial litigation, products liability, general negligence and some possible labor and employment matters.

The position will be responsible for some management responsibilities over casualty and general liability in the Houston area with an ability to run an individual docket of cases and supervise other attorneys in the Houston office.

Applications from the Dallas market are being accepted with the expectation of monthly travel to the Houston office.

This work would include litigation in state and Federal Courts and before governing agencies and responding to demand letters and charges of discrimination.

The individual would work on a wide variety of general casualty and some claims of professional liability.

Some cases will be a higher exposure and significant potential liability cases.

Specific duties will include: trial work, conducting and defending depositions and engaging in other pre-trial discovery, drafting pleadings, engaging in motion practice, researching, briefing and arguing appellate matters, appearing in administrative agency matters, representing client at mediation, negotiating settlements, generating reports, evaluations on assigned cases and supervision and management of the general liability staff in the Houston office.
Position Description: Admission to Texas State bar and the U.S.

District Courts of Texas.

Must have at least 5 years of casualty litigation experience.

Additional insurance defense experience including in negligence, products and premises liability, property damage and automobile accidents is preferred.

Must have experience litigating a broad range of matters in state and federal court and able to work independently on same.

Must have strong knowledge of current procedural and substantive law, as well as Federal, state and administrative agency rules.

Must be able to demonstrate effective oral and written advocacy skills and negotiation tactics.

Must have an ability to apply analytical skills in addressing complex legal issues.

Must be able and willing to proactively communicate with clients, Claims staff and other members of House Counsel.
